Did you know the average person spends 90,000 hours at work in their lifetime? No wonder work impacts our quality of life so much!
Since a large chunk of our life is spent at work, it is important that we take steps to incorporate self-care into our workday. Whether you are working in an office or working from home, these steps I take have elevated my workday and can change yours for the better too.
Light a candle, put up some of your favorite photos, keep a lipstick you love handy, or decorate it with things that make you happy. This is my favorite because you can let your creativity shine and make a space that is unique to you! Your work environment impacts your productivity so much, so take time to create a space that helps you stay focused while also being a space you love.
Invest in a cute water bottle to keep at your desk and drink it throughout the day. This bottle is so dreamy and perfect to help you keep motivated to drink more water throughout the day! Staying hydrated is so important to your overall health and a huge way to practice self-care!
I covered this in a previous blog post, but take a break during your work day. Not only does it break up a long day, but it gives you the chance to enjoy some time to yourself. Try and take at least a 30-minute lunch break each day! Make yourself a yummy salad or pick up lunch from your favorite local place, and take this time to just breathe away from your screens and to-do lists.
Get out your headphones and play that podcast you’ve been meaning to listen to or turn up your favorite playlist. You may not be able to listen to something with every task you have to do but some people can be really productive with the right playlist. Since I work solo from home, playing a podcast or a playlist is nice because it provides a little background noise – plus, it’s a huge mood and energy booster! This podcast is one of my top favorites.
Whether you try a walking meeting or do a little office yoga, giving yourself time to step away from your desk. It can really help break up your day and allow you to take care of your body. One of my favorite tips is to schedule a workout class at the end of your workday because it helps you actually wrap up things instead of working all through the night!
Whether you put just one or all five of these practices into place, I encourage you to make small steps to take care of yourself at work. Another huge way I make sure to take care of myself is by making a plan for my work week and sticking to it!
